A Nifty Gizmo

Filed under: Wine Accessories — Erin @ 10:01 am

While surfing the internet this morning looking for some interesting wine related gifts to get my husband for his birthday next month, I came across this nifty little gizmo called The Wine Clip.  For around $49.95 the wine clip attaches around the neck of a red wine bottle and almost as if by magic helps soften the tannins in the red wine producing mellower and much softer flavours, as if the wine is more mature than it really is.  It is thought that passing a conductive fluid through a properly designed magnetic field affects the polar molecular structure of the liquid, in this case the red wine.

I’m not sure if this would really work, but it sounds interesting!

The Ulimate in Home Winemaking

Filed under: Wine, Wine Accessories — Erin @ 1:29 pm

For those looking to make wine from the comfort of their home with no fuss and mess, have no fear, the WinePod is here!

Standing at around 4 feet tall, this digitally networked machine does it all. It ferments, presses, and ages wine in one self-contained stylish looking device. The heat and fermentation are controlled and maintained using thermoelectric heating and cooling and all the data that you need to know while fermenting your wine are sent wirelessly to your PC.

It can produce up to 60 bottles at a time of your favourite varietals.

I know that when I have the space for one of these beautiful and versatile machines I will be more than willing to hand over the low price of $3,500 for one!

Corkscrew Museum

Filed under: General, Wine Accessories — Erin @ 10:07 am

For those looking for something a little different, The Virtual Corkscrew Museum (www.corkscrewmuseum.com) online is a great website to visit for a little fun. The website was started on America Online in 1994 but has been growing and as of 1999 has over 18 million page hits. The museum is divided up into 30 virtual “rooms” filled with images of corkscrews divided up into various categories such as corkscrews that look like pistols or corkscrews that resemble birds. It is a very interesting website to have a look at, I personally was never one for corkscrew collecting but to see a collection as large and eclectic as this museum is impressive. As a side note, if you have the volume on your computer turned on be aware that the pages come with sound affects.

A Perfect Gift For The Person With Everything

Filed under: General, Wine Accessories — admin @ 9:53 am

It can be really hard to find the perfect gift for people sometimes, and perhaps that is why I love the Buy a Gift website (www.buyagift.co.uk). They have some of the most unique and interesting gifts; it is easy to find a gift for even the most difficult person. My favorites are the wine gifts. For as little as £109.00 you can rent a row of over 50 vines at a vineyard for one year and get 2 or 6 bottles of wine. Included in this gift are personalized labels for the bottles of wine you get as well as information in purchasing other bottles from your vines and invitations to events in England, France and Italy. Not a bad deal if you ask me, and a great unique gift for the wine lover who has everything!

Just a small note: I am not sure how these gifts work in the USA or if they are only available in the UK. I have also not found a US equivalent to this website, if anyone knows of one let me know and I’ll add that to this blog.

Lovers Cups

Filed under: Wine Accessories — Erin @ 9:37 am

Your loved ones may be hundreds of miles away, but a new invention from students at MIT might allow you to nonverbally communicate. The idea, high tech wine glasses that glow using white and red LED lights when a person picks up the cup or puts it to their lips to take a sip.

Less like wine glasses and more like large tumblers, “Lovers Cups” were created by Jackie Lee and Hyemin Chung, who were both looking for ways to have nonverbal communication with their loved ones in Taiwan and Korea. In short distances the glasses can communicate with each other with wireless connections within the glasses, but farther distances require communication over an Internet or mobile phone connection.

Lovely Glasses

Filed under: Wine Accessories — Erin @ 10:05 am

I’m sure this is probably already common knowledge to most, but if you are looking for really great decorative wine glasses Pier 1 Imports is the place to go. I don’t think I have ever seen to many unique and high quality glasses for such inexpensive prices. Whether you want clear or colored glass, stripes or polka dots, Pier 1 seems to have it all. My hand painted multi colored polka dot glasses are always a hit at dinner parties. And they are not that expensive either when you think of the quality you are getting. Starting out at roughly $4.00 a piece for the more decorative glasses you could have a collection of 8 beautiful festive glasses for around $32 that will be sure to have your guests talking.
