Aside from the brief mention here and there with regards to the Wine Bug or Bugus Erectus, very little mention has been made as to how versatile a wine holder or wine caddy really can be! At the risk of sounding like an infomercial, I would like to point out why I love wine holders and wine caddies.A wine holder is a great way to display that single bottle of wine that you want to set apart from the rest of your collection. Maybe you have a bottle of wine that you bought while on your honeymoon in France, or maybe it’s just a bottle from the market, which you think is fabulous, either way wine bottle holders are a better option to simply standing it on the counter. We all know that bottles should not be stood up because the cork can dry out and spoil the wine, so not only does a wine holder display you favourite bottle, but it also does this the correct way!
Some wine holders also double as a wine server, which makes it even more appealing. Aside from just showing off a bottle of wine, wine servers also are a great way to serve that Chardonnay or Merlot at a dinner party. From traditional to a little more eccentric, wine servers are always a conversation piece as well as a fantastic method for displaying and serving wine.
How often have you been invited to dinner and showed up with a bottle of wine in a plastic supermarket shopping bag or a brown paper sack from the liquor store? I know I have done it many times, and always feel a little awkward showing up at a nice dinner with the bottle in a brown bag that makes you look like a bum. Enter the wine caddy! Able to hold from one bottle to a few, a wine caddy is, in my humble opinion, a much better way of transporting wine. Some even hold wine glasses, which is perfect if you are looking to have a lovely picnic in the park (be aware of public drinking laws before doing this, while it might be acceptable in some places, in others you could get arrested).
So this is why I love the wine caddy and the wine holder! So many styles and so many uses, I only wish I had written about them sooner!

This is not an original blog; I borrowed this from my “Wine Lover’s Calendar” which sits on my desk, but thought it would be of interest to some:
Hail, Caesar!
“One day, as I made the dressing (liberally, with garlic and anchovies) for a classic Caesar salad, I braced myself. Could any wine stand up to this? I opened 15 different types of wine to find out. As it happens, Caesar salad married well with an incredible range of wines. And, to be honest, I’m not exactly sure why. On the one hand, light bodied whites with good acidity worked beautifully. (To wit: Firestone Sauvignon Blanc from California and Zind Humbrecht Gris from Alsace, France were both stellar.) But my favorite choices were just the opposite: full-bodied whites with low acidity. Three types of wine that fit the bill: chardonnay, gewürztraminer and voignier. In particular, the Lawson’s Dry Hills Gewürztraminer from Marlborough, New Zealand (about $16), is sensational with a Caesar salad.

There is nothing more lovely than the look of a perfectly crafted wooden wine rack. Especially the look of a maple and walnut wall mounted wine rack. The two colors, opposite yet complimenting are unique and beautiful creating a wine rack unlike any other. Created to be beautiful as well as durable, this is probably one of my favorite wine racks around.

Lots of people assume that red wine is red because the color of the grape skin used is red. While that is true, it is only part of the reason why red wine is red. If you look at the inside of a red grape the pulp (and the juice) are actually clear, which means that skin color itself is not enough to make the wine red.
The process of fermentation is very important in making red wine. The process used in making red wine generates both heat and alcohol which act as solvents, drawing the color out of the skins into the juice. If there were no heat or alcohol created during fermentation the red color that is seen in red wine would be non-existent!

It can be really hard to find the perfect gift for people sometimes, and perhaps that is why I love the Buy a Gift website (www.buyagift.co.uk). They have some of the most unique and interesting gifts; it is easy to find a gift for even the most difficult person. My favorites are the wine gifts. For as little as £109.00 you can rent a row of over 50 vines at a vineyard for one year and get 2 or 6 bottles of wine. Included in this gift are personalized labels for the bottles of wine you get as well as information in purchasing other bottles from your vines and invitations to events in England, France and Italy. Not a bad deal if you ask me, and a great unique gift for the wine lover who has everything!
Just a small note: I am not sure how these gifts work in the USA or if they are only available in the UK. I have also not found a US equivalent to this website, if anyone knows of one let me know and I’ll add that to this blog.

For someone looking for a practical and yet unique wine rack, the wine racks manufactured by Delia are an excellent choice. Crafted from steel, each piece is designed by a Delia artist and custom crafted. Among the interesting and unique wine racks created, there is the wine spine. A modern piece, this rack curves gently forming a vertebrae shape while holding 13 bottles of your favorite wine. I have never seen a wine rack with this sort of style before, and while to some thinking about a wine rack that resembles a spine might seem a little strange, this wine rack is well crafted and looks elegant while being unique and versatile at the same time.
My personal favorites are the two little wine holders fondly known as the Wine Bug and Bugus Erectus. Designed to be counter top wine holders, the Wine Bug doubles as a bottle pourer. When a bottle is open he sits on his behind so as not to spill the open bottle. Bugus Erectus is the descendant of the Wine Bug, standing on two legs instead of 4 and holding two bottles of wine instead of one. The steel work used to create these pieces gives each of the bugs personality. Very adorable!
Delia also do more traditional yet unique floor standing wine racks and wine carts. The Orbital One and Orbital Two wine racks and tables are very different, and they have taken the concept of a traditional bottle bouquets and expanded it by creating a family of bouquets that hold from 5 bottles up to 17 bottles.
